GEI MEKONG has added a new waste-to-energy project in Vientiane, Laos to its project portfolio

The project will look to build a waste-to-energy facility at the current landfill site, covering 100 hectares and situated 32 km’s from Vientiane city centre.

Vientiane currently produces about 300 tons of municipal waste per day and the Vientiane Government has expressed concerns that the landfill site, which has been in operation for approximately 10 years, has no structured approach to the handling of daily deliveries of MSW, and that there are no sustainable plans to manage the expected increase in municipal waste in the future.

GEI MEKONG will partner with GGI Energy Singapore and GGII as part of a joint venture project to build a waste-to-energy facility at the landfill site that will manage the municipal waste being delivered to the site and convert the waste.

Three (3) x All Diesel pyrolysis lines processing 300 tons of municipal waste per day will producing 45,000 litres of synthetic fuel (EN 590) per day will be built at the facility.

“We are very excited about this project in Vientiane. Providing long term sustainable solutions to waste management issues that don’t include dumping waste into landfill will be greatly benefit the environment in Vientiane.” said Steve Morrish, Director of GEI MEKONG.

The project which has been sanctioned by the Laos Government will cost approximately $38 million dollars (usd) to build.
